Judoka Willian Lima, silver and bronze medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, reached a new milestone in his career by being promoted to blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by professors Bruno Gobbato, leader of G13 BJJ Vila Leopoldina, and Paulo Muzy. The graduation ceremony took place recently, highlighting Willian’s continued dedication to martial arts.
Born in Mogi das Cruzes, São Paulo, on January 31, 2000, Willian Lima began his judo journey at the age of six. Over the years, he established himself as one of the top names in Brazilian judo, representing Clube Pinheiros and the Brazilian national team. His performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics was remarkable, winning silver and bronze medals in the lightweight category (up to 66kg), becoming the first medalist for the Brazilian Olympic Committee in this edition of the Games.
The blue belt promotion in Brazilian jiu-jitsu represents a significant expansion in Willian’s martial arts training. Brazilian jiu-jitsu, known for its technical complexity and emphasis on ground fighting, complements Willian’s judo skills, which traditionally focus on throws and standing control. This combination of techniques enhances his versatility as an athlete and enriches his understanding of martial arts.
Bruno Gobbato, responsible for the promotion, is a renowned jiu-jitsu instructor and leader of G13 BJJ Vila Leopoldina. In addition to his work in jiu-jitsu, Gobbato is an orthopedic doctor and recently gained attention for using the Apple Vision Pro to assist in a shoulder surgery, showcasing his innovation in sports medicine.
Paulo Muzy, who also participated in the promotion, is a doctor, athlete, and digital influencer, known for his work in the fitness world and for promoting the integration of health, physical training, and martial arts. Muzy trained jiu-jitsu for 12 years and often shares insights on the importance of this martial art on his channels.
Willian Lima’s decision to dedicate himself to jiu-jitsu, in addition to his already established career in judo, reflects his commitment to continuous improvement and the pursuit of new challenges. This initiative not only expands his technical repertoire but also serves as an inspiration to other athletes who seek to diversify their skills in martial arts.
Willian’s promotion to the blue belt in jiu-jitsu is a testament to his dedication and passion for martial arts, marking the beginning of a new phase in his already illustrious career.
